A number of people were forced from their homes early this morning after fire broke out in an apartment complex in the 100 block of Powell Avenue.

Fire caused an estimated $60,000 damage to a 2 1/2-story home in the 600 block of Orchard Street in Portage late Wednesday afternoon.

A Cresson man died early Saturday when he failed to negotiate a curve on Level Road, authorities said.
