Cotton picture not a good one for county
With high demand and prices for cotton in the spring, many farmers in the area increased their acreage, planting an estimated 65,000 to 70,000 acres.
Rain is scarce in Southwest Georgia, and area farmers are feeling the heat. With cotton, peanut and corn crops hanging in the balance, the process of irrigation is being stretched to the limits of mechanical and economic endurance.
A fire destroyed a house in rural Mitchell County Thursday night. The owner escaped uninjured, but lost everything in the fire.
High Cotton Yard Sale spans 65 miles
It was hog heaven for yard sale enthusiasts Saturday. It stretched some 65 miles from Camilla to Fort Gaines.
