Imagine graduating high school, being handed your diploma and essentially being told, "Here's a shovel - time to go work in the mines," without vacations, days off, holidays, for the next 50 years or so while making next to nothing.

School officials shut down a Knott County school today due to an illness. Cordia Elementary and High School had its first day of school Wednesday, but students weren't allowed in the building Thursday due to precautionary measures.

Cordia High School principal Charles Jones said Thursday that former University of Kentucky basketball player Rodrick Rhodes has been named the school's boys' basketball coach.Cordia, located in Hazard, has about 120 students in grades 9-12."His plans are to be in Eastern Kentucky as soon as next Friday," Jones said.

LEX 18 has learned that former UK basketball star Rodrick Rhodes has accepted the head basketball coaching position at Cordia High School in Hazard.
