Schools delay vote on proposal to hold 13th Region Tournament at Corbin Arena

Full story: www.thenewsjournal.net

Although a vote was expected Tuesday on the possibility of moving the 13th Region Basketball Tournament to the newly constructed Arena in Corbin, the only thing those in attendance could agree on was to call another meeting to discuss the matter more thoroughly.

It figures that Clay County and Harlan are the ones acting like spoiled brats and ruining it for everyone.

It would be great for all the 13th Region players but to be fair the ass end of the region needs to be able to vote too even of they vote no.

I dont have a problem with corbin hosting the tourney there, but it gives them a permanent home court advantage. That simply isn,t fair, especcialy to schools like Harlan or Middlesboro that have long trips.

How is it home court advantage if they don't play at that place? It maybe in the same town but if you don't play in the same rims there is no homecourt, and as far as the crowd goes, there would be plenty of room for everyone

What about driving from Corbin to Harlan, or Bell Co., or God forbid the butthole of the world, Clay County. If I had a kid on a team in the tourney and it was in Clay Co., I would demand it be played during the day or he would stay home. Clay sux!

Because, Its at most 10 minutes from anywhere in Corbin, compared to a 2 hour bus ride from Harlan. It would be like B-ville hosting at Union College

The tournament location rotates between the schools in the region so that everyone has the opportunity to play at home. When the tourneys in Harlan everyone goes there, when its in corbin, they go there. Its a simple concept.

But they are talking a permanent home at the arena. That would mean Corbin would never have to travel. If they wanted to host it at the Harlan National Guard Armory every year, would you be so gung-ho?

I think they should keep the current system, its the fairest way to do it.

Oh yeah, keep the status quo, along with the parking nightmares and the ridiculous split sessions. Plus, who in their right mind, besides someone from Clay or Harlan County, would want to drive to Manchester or Harlan for ANY reason. Economically, it should benefit all schools, not just the bigger ones. Cox and King on the radio thought it might be a possibility it would happen. Do you know more than than they do, BB fan?

Is it possible that the schools that want to host it at the Arena can choose that option and those that want to host it on their campus can do that? Personally, I would like it to be held at the Arena every year.

They need it. The Arena is starting to get cobwebs. Can't wait for the tractor pull...three days worth. I'm about to come.

It doesn't need to be held at the Arena. Each school should get to host it the way it's always been. Corbin thinks they deserve everything. Makes me sick!

But then again it is the best location and the best facility. I would be in favor of it and would highly recommend it to those voting.

you obviously don't know what u are talking about. There are only nine of the 17 schools that have hosted the region tourney. That's who the rotation is between, which means schools like W'burg, Lynn Camp, Redbird, OBI and so on never have the chance to host anything. They just go where they are told and get a small slice of the pie. DA!

These schools choses no to host region (they still get district). Barbourville for example has hosted at Knox Central in the past, but still got the funds.

after thinking it over, i think that when its a schools turn to host, they can have it at the arena and split the money, or they can host them selves and get it all. As for a permanant home crowd advantage for corbin. designate sections for each schools pep sections.

Hey, it comes down to money most likely. The arena is probably not offering enough money to the schools to come down here.

Corbin has nothing to do with it, but I would like to see it there because of parking and seating. It would be an awesome event.

Yeah it would be a good event. The crowd would be double or triple what it might be in a high school gym. Thats were the big money would come in and thats why they can offer each team so much money. One or two hold outs just want to spite Corbin.

If the vote is in favor of the arena by one vote, will it pass? Or does it have to be unanimous?
