Postal workers may face serious job challenges nationwide as the U.S. Postal Service seeks congressional action to allow it to withdraw from federal heath and retirement plans and cut its workforce by 20 percent to avoid financial doom within weeks.

Despite cutting $12 billion in labor costs over the past four years, the United States Postal Service says it expects to face a deficit of between $8 and $9 billion in fiscal year 2011.
