Right on CDF...including Doug Baker, John Butts, Bob Vallette, and Bob DiVinney for their skill in the air. Shame on the dope growers for starting the fire...hope the liability falls on your shoulders!

Poor firemen. They had to get out of their Lazy Boy recliners to fight a fire. It really gets me what in Hell do these firefighters do when there is no fire, which is most of the time. Everybody calls them heros, I call them scammers. What a great gig. Sit around playing video games most of the time and only go out a couple of times a year to fight a fire. Google ten most dangerous jobs in America and you won't even find these guys on the list--but they're heros???? Go figure?

Try flying an S-2T tanker in hot, smokey, dangerous conditions, fully loaded with 1200 gallons of Thermo-gel, with the density altitude way up because of 100+ temps. The true hero's are the tanker and helicopter pilots. It's probably one of the top 10 most hazardous jobs in the US.

You're a LAMO!

I have been reading these threads for months now and, while I am disappointed by people who use this forum just to be hateful, I respect our constitutional right to freedom of speech. However, this one begs for a reply. I proudly work at Ukiah Valley Fire District so I see first-hand what these men and women do each day. First, we do not even have video games in the station. Secondly, when the firefighters at my station are not on a fire or medical aid, they are working. They repair engines and other vehicles, they do reports, they assist with the free smoke detector program, they do plan checks on building projects, they attend meetings and much more. Our district offers extensive training to both our career and volunteer firefighters. The career staff at our station do not take breaks during the day -- they begin their day at 7:00, they take a one hour lunch (like most people) and knock off for the day between 5:00 and 11:00 at night. Of course, they may be up all night running calls or working on a big fire. In those instances, they do not sleep the next day, they work as usual. These are the best people I have ever worked with and I am honored to be a part of this organization. This is not intended to criticize the opinion of someone else, it is simply to let the public know that although that behavior may occur at other fire departments, it does not happen at ours. I am also including my name as I will never post anything to this thread that I don't want the world to know I said. I think if you are kind and respectful with your posts and convicted in your thinking, you don't need to hide behind a false name.

wow rosco i cant believe you would even consider bashing the firefighting world. we are the most underappreciated jobs around. people cant even fathom working a 24 hr shift and then getting sent to a fire. it takes some really determined and strong minded people to even pull something like that off. i bet you wouldnt be saying that if it were your house that was threatened by a fire and the firefighters worked so damn hard to save it. what is it that you do eh?

Rosco is a hater, probably tried to get on a fire department somewhere and was too wimpy to succeed! Again, you guys did a great job on a hot day!

Wow, it really gets me how some people just have a knack for raising their hand and telling the world what ignorant, lame brained morons they are. This guy is probably a welfare scammer, drug dealing, shoplifting gang banger who got kicked out of school at 10 years old for telling the teacher what a scammer they were for getting paid to teach him or her what, of course, they already knew. Get a life, these guys work hard and save lives and property, do not get paid enough, and still in the face of some ignoramus like you, smile and nod, knowing that when your house is burning, they will still come and save your sorry butt. Gratz Firefighters, to those who matter, you really are true heroes.

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Sagittarius

Slow down! You're trying to do too much and it's driving you - and everyone else - up the wall. What's more, if you're in too much of a hurry you'll start to become accident-prone and that will make you even more het up. Try to take any setbacks or domestic mishaps in your stride, otherwise you'll end the day feeling like a nervous wreck.
