"After reading (about) the vehicles the county has, I believe the city of Las Cruces, the university and the school districts should do the same. I believe they have just as many vehicles, if not more. And I think it's time they should start cutting back." Couldn't agree more. What especially irks me is NMSU vehicles being used by personnel to commute back-and-forth to WSMR. I get passed by these vehicles exceeding the speed limit during my commute, it provides unfair competition and compensation (the employees don't pay for the gas we tax payers do) and it creates a huge liability. If one of these vehicles gets in a wreck, can be proven to be speeding, etc then NMSU will pay big in the lawsuit (i.e., we the taxpayers pay again).

And for the record, we’re NOT exceeding the speed limit; you’re just a slow old fart.

Old buildings in New Mexico are not sound structures because they are made from mud and straw(adobe). The old ruins at Fort Seldon and all over New Mexico disappear every year. This old structure in Las Cruces called the Armijo House will eventually have to be torn down just like the old St Genevives church.

The building that could not pass a codes inspection and is one of the worst working environments in the city is the building and office of the Sun News. The people that own the paper should be ashamed of how they treat their employees. The city inspectors will not look into this because of their fear of reprisal and being targeted with negative stories. Can you say asbestos?

Wonder what effect it has on employee moral? Might explain the lack of proofreading, reporting and lack of pride. Absentee ownership has been the death of many a great enterprise.

Congratulations Barry Your Stimulus Bill money at work - yesterday people lined up in Detroit to receive applications for $3,000 (FREE) money from taxpayer stimulus bill dollars. This is "REDISTRIBUTION" the taking of wealth from one group (taxpayers) and giving it to another group (zero liability) voters without any stipulations and is unsustainable. Socialism at it's best!

Well, he IS a windbag who likes to hear himself talk, so what do you want him to do? He's our own little local obama. Its better to have a little local Obama than a little local Bush. To hear Bush speak in a public forum is embarrassing.

EXCEPT that asbestos in place and undisturbed IS NOT any kind of health hazard. Only if it is disturbed and made into a friable, airborne substance can it become a hazard. This would include cutting or grinding the material with power tools. If it's in a blanket form, it can be cut with scissors with very little risk, a simple good quality dust mask is enough. If it's a cementitious product, such as wall panels, etc, then water can be sprayed on it as it's cut to keep the dust down and mitigate any hazard. You drink water every day that came through asbestos-cement pipes. Has that affected you?

Depends on the foundation. I have an old adobe house and recently did a restoration in excess of $200,000. It was worth it because of structural integrity. Gee, I wish some group would have helped me with the cost (just being sarcastic). Let's hope the Armijo House is restored; it's a lovely building.

Wow, good for you! That is a chunk of change for a restoration, but it is great to see folks that can afford to do restoration and actually do it. I tip my hat to you.
