When Army Master Sgt. Roy E. Head of the Grit Hill community of Clinchport returned to active duty during the Korean Conflict in 1947 following his service in World War II, his family and friends expected the young man, who recently married to serve his country with honor and distinction then return home and begin his life with his bride.
