She was born on Oct. 2, 1932, near Clifton, Kan., the older of two children of Walter and Genevieve Hawke.

Ruby was born January 31, 1925 in Clifton, Kansas to parents Ernst Carlson from Sweden and Edith Lundberg Carlson.
