from the article: "“There are too many deaths and we need to help celebrate and get together and stop the violence,” said Elizabeth resident Lesa Mitchell when asked why she attended the crusade.“We need to get together and have some unity and stop Black-on-Black violence and not just get together when folks die.”"
(Celebrate...) (Why only black on black violence) (So Black on White violence is ok?) (If whites got together to stop white on white violence, they would be called racist)

(Why only black on black violence) (So Black on White violence is ok?) (If whites got together to stop white on white violence, they would be called racist) You're both missing the point. The dictionary definition of celebrate is, "To observe (a day or event) with ceremonies of respect" Synonym: Observe. Black-on-black violence comprises the vast majority of violence in Clairton so that comment was not out of line, and although I know and you know that your "...black on white violence is ok" comment was made tongue-in-cheek, there are many Jerry Springer viewers and Rush Limbaugh Dittoheads and other knuckle draggers who would think "Uh, yeah, da guy has a point." As to your final statement, BFD. You imply the person interviewed is racist. It is an easy term to fling at somebody. Especially somebody you wish to denigrate. Rather than pick and parse, why not try to be a positive force and try to change the inequities you see? Oh, I know! Snidley said it. It is easier to sit around, be lazy, and cast aspersions than to become an activist and improve the lot of your hometown.

You are concerned enough to post on this forum. "Why should you care about another communities problems?" Ask your priest, minister, or pastor that question and get back to me with the answer.

What's the use.....they don't even WANT to get past their bigotry......when I contrast these posts about "hard truth" with the team work I see every hour just in our refinery, I could almost laugh -- except it would be a very sad laugh. If they were not so COMPLETELY malevolent, it would almost be possible to feel sorry for them -- ALMOST! I have however enjoyed our conversations.

There are times I feel I must comment - when people post things that are factually incorrect, when people spew passion laced with hate, and when some act out just like children. I try to present an opposing view without wallowing in the mire. Maybe, just maybe one who spouts off without realizing the damage and hate in his (her) comments, will take a moment to reflect on the other point of view. It doesn't have to change their mind or even make them less passionate because the passion is what will start to change our City. But perhaps they will THINK about their comments. I am guilty of being an eternal optimist. Even my blood type is B Positive.

But for the sikent majority - the ones who had the answer in school but were too shy to raise their hands. Perhaps they will be inspired to believe in themselves and start repairing their community.
