I have heard time and time again that Chatsworth was getting a Walmart. I still have not see anything that shows that one is coming, Has any one any idea if it is true or not? There is so much grading and clearing differnt properties in Chatsworth but no signs are up. Does anyone know what is going on on Chatsworth Highway acorss from the Cohutta Bank Branch below Ingles area? if any one has any info would be great.

I have heard that the Wal-Mart will be just West of Hwy 225 on Hwy 76. The bypass is supposed to be built in that area also. My guess is that they will not start any construction in that area until they have started working on the bypass. The paper stated that would be sometime in 2009. I agree a new steak house would be nice!

I seen a new building going up and low and behold another chicken place. What is wrong with this place. I grew up in Calhoun Ga. in the 60's and chatsworth and calhoun were about the same size, not true now, Calhoun has far far exceeded the Chatsworth ga. area. A walmart, a steak house, an outlet shopping center and many many more.

That wasn't true then either. Calhoun has always been at least twice the size of Chatsworth and probably larger.Calhoun is a much older town than Chatsworth, Chatsworth has been the County seat for less than 100 years, before that Spring Place was the main town in the County. Calhoun goes back before the Civil War. The difference is Chatsworth does not have an Interstate going through the middle of town and Calhoun does.
Most of us are happy with the growth we have. I don't want a bunch of traffic and people around.
I hope everybody moves to Calhoun and Dalton and leaves us alone.

Again, apples and oranges. The growth in Ellijay is because of Hwy 515 and by the way The real Ellijay is smaller than it was 20 years ago. Their Growth has been in East Ellijay a completely different town from the Original Ellijay. Ellijay is actually going backwards.
Jasper has not grown that much but it is because it is on 575/515 and of course Calhoun is on I-75.
Chatsworth has not grown because it is not on a major highway with thousands of cars and trucks coming through every day and because we are only 11 miles from Dalton.
Walmart will never build in Chatsworth. That ship has sailed. Our Chamber of Commerce saw to that.
If Walmart built in Chatsworth it would only take business away from the East side Dalton store.
Why build another store to get business you are gettin already?
Some day if they continue to grow Eton might see a Walmart or something similiar. The nearest store North is in Madisonville, TN unless Etowah
has a store now. A store in Eton would service a more diverse area than Chatsworth. But it probably will never happen.

I heard that Sam's Club is coming to Dalton, and wonder if they might use the "old" Walmart (eastside) for it, and then build another Walmart in Chatsworth. Just a thought. Or wishful thinking. LOL
If it's true of Sam's Club in Dalton, I think a good building would be the old Lowe's building, large enough, I would think.

hahadoho, do you go to Ellijay? What are you calling the "real Ellijay?" I'm over there often according to what I see there is definitely growth in East Ellijay and in the downtown area on the weekends it is packed with people from Atlanta and Florida. It doesn't appear to be going backwards. The Chamber of Commerce has never tried to get anything in this area. They are too afraid it will hurt their businesses.

You are right about our Chamber of Commerce. I am in Ellijay several times a week. You just repeated what I said about East Ellijay.
Old Ellijay is dead. There is not even a drugstore in old Ellijay, nothing but Antique and Junk Shops. All of the real businesses have moved to East Ellijay.
The kind of business in Ellijay is indicitive of a dieing town, same goes for old Blue Ridge, Murphy NC and Andrews NC,and even old Dalton.
You may not be old enough to remember when Dalton was Dalton, no more, Dalton is on Walnut Avenue now with direct access to the Interstate. Crumbling buildings converted to Antique shops and other basically non productive enterprises.
Happening all over the South and North where Major highways have gone passed the old towns
The population of Ellijay has gone down in the past 20 years. Check the census records.
The real key to growth as I have said is a major
4 lane highway, which Chatsworth doesn't have and if we ever do have one it will have to bypass the old part of town.
The only real growth we can expect in Murray county is as a suburb of Dalton. Our leaders and the Chamber have let us down as you say to keep out competition.

By the way I assume that you know that East Ellijay is a completely seperate town with it's own Government. They have no connection with Ellijay except being close by each other.

/QUOTE] I'm sorry for the last comment, it's just that it is so unhandy having to drive to dalton to shop at wal-mart the way gas prices are. The mountains are beautiful and I would miss the scenery around here very much. We do have alot to be grateful for here

walmart is not what it is cracked up to be. They love to come and and take mom and pop stores that have serviced your parents, your children and you for years and close them down. They say that by allowing them to build they will give back to schools, but it does not happen. Before everyone jumps on banwagon for walmart check out the documentary: WAL-MART The Highcost of Low Prices, by Robert Greenwald. He gives a lot of facts to what walmart does for small towns. Job rates rise welfare rasies. I know for a fact that your town does not need anymore of that. I notices someone complaining about gas prices and driving all the way to dalton to shop there. take the gas money it would take for you to get their and put it back into your community by shoping at stores around you. walmart truly reaps havoc on small town.

sorry i need to make a correction to the above statement. About jobs. walmart states that they will bring to the community jobs, but they acutally take them from store and move them to their store. causing job rates to plumet, which causes welfare to increase. It is a fact walmart tries with there best efforts to give low pay and keep employees part time bases. which is from 10 to 30 hours a week. employees can't even buy insurance from them. Walmart also informes employees how obtain WIC, Goverment Funding Housing, And foodstamps. Letting us foot the bill so they can make more money. Check out your facts about the place before jumping into wanting them to build in your town. That being said Chatsworth is a small town and does need the oppunity to grow before it completely dies out. Just check out what is wanting to come in and see if it is going to benifit the community, not just your Convenient needs.

Daily Horoscope for December 29

Scorpio

Your thoughts turn to the past today, putting you in a nostalgic mood. You're awash with sentimental tears as you dwell on days gone by or gaze at photos of people you'll never see again. However, try not to let this mood of reminiscence turn into a tendency to feel sorry for yourself and therefore to demand special treatment from others.
