Filipinos flocking to Chino Hills

Anyone wants to be just "Americans"? Not sure if this is good news or bad news.

the name should be changed to filipino hills

Can we do this for white people too! or would that be racist? I would like for my culture to be known as well. Wait lets do it for Irish people. Do you think that would be an issue?

They've been here for years, so what, leave em alone.

Why can't these ethnic groups just assimilate? Why must they "take over" neighborhoods and towns? Pretty soon you are going to see a backlash in Chino Hills when the Filipinos start demanding this and that. Store fronts will be required to changed their signage to the Filipino language. Schools will have to change their curriculum, etc. If you feel the need to be around your own kind so much...go back to the Philippines!

Sems like the Chinese should be flocking to Chino/ Chinese in Spanish.

Chino Hills, Chino all the same. Same as north Diamond Bar and Pomona being the same

an event that would be "racist" would be a white cultural event, one that celebrates "white" culture because it essentially singles it out. if there were to be an irish event, or a scandanavian event, or a german event that wouldn't be racist at all! individual subgroups have these events all the time and nobody is calling them racist!

stop screaming reverse racism when it doesn't actually exist. let groups celebrate their culture, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that! the whole point of a melting pot isn't for culture to get lost, but for culture to get dispersed through to the entire society -- we all learn from eachother and i think this filipino event was a great thing.

and by the way, what world are you living in vito? chino hills is a great neighborhood; 13th safest city in the US, 8th best place to live in the US (money magazine). i think you need to actually visit CH before you make assumptions.

if you actually read the article you would find out the reason the event was put on was because filipinos in chino hills have assimilated so much that much of the culture has been lost through generational transitions. many older filipinos want to teach their kids and grandkids foods, dance, music and art of the philippines... is there a problem with that? or are you too narrow-minded to see past your self-created veil of intolerance?

Nancy get you head out of your a$$,did you miss the part that the majority of them are filipino AMERICANS which means they came from AMERICA.Read the entire story next time not just the headline.

There's been a Jolly Bee and Goldilocks Bakery at the Chino Spectrum for almost a year now. These two businesses = "lots" of Filipinos in the area.

The Filipinos (really Americans) have been a wonderful presence - very respectful, good families, focused on education and the "american" way of life. I wish more would move into Chino :)

"think", you're right on target. But sadly, these bigots read a headline about "Filipinos" and click, not to become more educated or aware, but to unleash their racists, ignorant hatred. You're much too educated and eloquent for most of these commentators to even understand. And I'm sure they'll prove it themselves by the replies you'll get in regards to your posts.

One could post eloquent postings, regarding their perceived viewpoint that the "take over" is negative. As with immigration, this country was founded on the 1st amendment. I live in West Covina and see the "take over," as long as they keep their lawns nicely kept, keep their residential occupancy below 10 members per household, put some shoes on (no...sandles are not shoes!) and stop trying to catch my dog, we can live marmony with one another. There will be those that may be offended, as a result I feel compelled with be offended with your opposite viewpoint of mine. I am not saying your right, nor am I. I am simply speaking my mind and thats......just how it is!

I think it is ignorant of you to make an assumption that Filipinos can not assimilate.I am Filipino and I own a big house in Chino Hills. I am able to afford it because of my hard work and dedication.There are a lot of succesful Filipinos in Chino Hills and all over U.S. We are also noted for our durability and resiliency. We can assimilate any civilization and thrive in any climate. We are known for our determination, intelligence and ability to think outside the box. By the way since almost all of us are highly educated, we do not need signs in Tagalog. We can speak English better than most Caucasian at least with proper grammar.

daaang! just cuz you probably have no background in life, doesn't mean you have to be jealous of people who do! These filipinos have worked just as hard as anyone else in this country, and should be treated with respect, just as any other race does. Filipinos and all other ethnicities have just as many rights as you do, so if we should "go back to our country," then you should do the same as well. Unless of course you're Native American, because they are the only ones who have the right to stay in this country, where they originated from. Whether you all like it or not, more and more people are migrating to this country. So if you are uncomfortable with that, then maybe YOU should just go back to YOUR OWN country!

Would you rather have negros? Puerto Ricans? Hawaiians? This is a racist newspaper to bring this to light.
