Letter: Vote of thanks to firefighters

July Fourth, as I watched from our deck the helicopters and bombers taking off and returning to the Chico airport, I kept thinking what a great and wonderful country in which we live.

I don't want to rain on anyones parade, but there were alot of sheriff's personnel and other law enforcement preventing looting and evacuating people. Everyone seems to have missed them.

Readin g and hearing about the tremendous efforts of both public servants reminds me of the many, many GOOD reasons we pay taxes, but of course I add my accolades for the unpaid efforts of all those volunteers. Hurrah!

Remember not too long ago when disasters like this happened, people were evacuated, and there were no accomodations for their pets/livestock? North Valley Animal Disaster Group and their ALL VOLUNTEER organization, working with Butte County Animal Control, has made sure that not only can people evacuate WITH their beloved pets, but if you're one of those people that have something like a horse but for whatever reason don't have the forethought to have a way to transport it out of the fire, THEY WILL COME AND GET IT!

If you ask me, that is quite an evolution in just a few short years. A HUGE thanks should go out to them as well.

Oh, and if you evacuated your pets to LPHS, I'd suggest you go and get them. I'd bet that pretty soon they're just gonna have to give up and take them to the nearest animal shelter...of course if their owners don't go there to pick up their pets, and they don't get adopted out to a family that WILL pick them up, the next place for these beloved pets will be the rendering plant on Highway 99!

GO GET YOUR PETS! And I'll be sending my $ donation to this dedicated, VOLUNTEER, organization!
