The Pittsylvania County office of the Virginia Cooperative Extension will host this year's burley tobacco production meeting at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Olde Dominion Agricultural Complex in Chatham.

The board of supervisors, after coming out of closed session during its regular meeting Monday night, voted 5-2 to authorize the county administrator to send out a request for proposals from companies to auction off the former school.

A Pittsylvania County man is enjoying his 15 minutes of fame after being featured on an episode of the hit reality series ?American Pickers? Monday night.

"American Pickers" cast members Mike Wolfe and Danielle Colby Cushman load items onto an antique pick-up truck Thursday at Henry Burnett's property in Chatham.

Gov. Bob McDonnell wants the General Assembly to maintain Virginia's moratorium on uranium mining for this year, allowing time for a new, multiagency working group to conduct a comprehensive, site-specific analysis of a proposed mining site in Pittsylvania County.

The single-vehicle wreck happened at about 10:30 a.m. next to Shorter Brothers Garage on U.S. 29 just north of Chatham.

"I have asked them not to take any action this session to allow us time to further evaluate the law and science concerning the mining of uranium, so that the legislature can make well informed policy decisions in the future," he said in a statement issued by his office Thursday.

The Community Foundation was incorporated in 1996 and has already returned more than $13.8 million in community grants and scholarships.
