Way to go WBIR (again)! My child was up for the Haslam award and went to the last round of interviews. It is a BIG deal on so many levels. You covered the story. If I want to know what's going on in Knoxville area, my pick is always WBIR.

Considering they are from all over the state and not just random 'rich' neighborhoods, I would agree... -sarcasm-

Thank you for the coverage, as my daughter is one of the Haslam Scholars. These are not rich kids; they are smart kids.

This is a great opportunity for many students who have worked extremely hard to be a success in high school. I just encourage future graduating students to take advantage of the opportunities they have now in high school so they can have a chance to further their educations by participating in an excellent program such as this.

I am the parent of a child, who was award a U T Chancellors Scholarship last year. He graduated at the top of his class from a Knox County high school. The accomplishments of these students have come from years of hard work and dedication. Many teachers recognized my child and his desire to learn years ago. We are not a "rich" family. We are, however, a proud family. Congratulations to all Haslam winners.

Being related to one of the Haslam Scholars, I know that the Honors Department and Selection Committee didn't choose only those students that were 'well off.' These scholarships provide worthy students with an opportunity to pursue a higher education without sinking themselves into debt. So before you bash all of their hard work. Think.

I am one of the 15 Haslam Scholars for the UT class of '12 and I can ASSURE you the selection committee did not select only those who were well-off. Admittedly there are a few of us who are fairly affluent, but no demographic other than intellectual acumen, extracurricular achievement, and leadership ability was considered.
Thank you to the very many of you who have offered your praise and compliments - I and the other 14 greatly appreciate it.=)
