Cost puts brakes on curb cuts in Chambersburg

Full story: Chambersburg Public Opinion

That is just crazy. Those curb cuts, as they call them, are manufactured right here in Chambersburg at Nitterhouse Concrete. They have a pile of them at the 'seconds store' on Rt. 11. I'm sure I saw a price tag of about $3-4.00 a piece on them. Where in the world does the other $6,997 in cost come from? I find it hard to believe that it cost that much to pour the concrete for one corner on the street.

Hmmm, you have money to waste on the rails to trails but not for this safety item?

You force property owners to pay for the installation and maintenance of curbs-sidewalks, but you shirk your responsibilities, especially when it makes since to do the curbs cuts now and not later!

I use a handicap scooter for shopping and attending events. Guess where I don't shop or attend events nymore? Downtown Chambersburg. Why? Because it is frustrating to infuriating when you WANT to shop locally, but can't get in the door, or even TO the door, of a store to shop there. Curb cuts could make visiting Applefest something I'd want to go see, instead of something I avoid all contact with Chambersburg for the duration of. Suing municipalities like the lady suing Gettysburg is doing is a sore temptation if you've been handicapped for long.

Ok, now for the hidden joke..........

New paving project comes through... You sorry folks that put in a new 6 inch curb, now only have a 4 inch curb...... Most times no chipping of the old roadway is done and they pour hot fresh asphalt on the old surface, thus coming up hire on your curb.....it gets better. You know those things called drains that come off your house and go out to the street, just wait to you see a half moon shaped hole coming out of your curb. What rain comes down them is now obstructed...better yet, when that guy pours that hot edge sealer from the metal can thing...that hot asphalt edge sealer will run back up into your downspout street discharge... so you now half moon water drain pipe has a harding taffy like plug put into it.......... Be ready with your digging iron once they go through... knock the heck out of it right away before it gets too hard and you can channel a path out somewhat
