THE LATEST report card on the fitness of California's youth is out, and while the numbers show slight improvement, it's certainly not good enough.

Students in Altadena, Sierra Madre, and Pasadena who attend Pasadena Unified schools improved in six categories on the California Physical Fitness Test, according to the state Department of Education.

Less than 40 percent of students in grades five, seven and nine achieved "healthy" levels in each of six fitness tests last year, but overall scores improved slightly.

Fifth, seventh and ninth grade California students scored higher this year than last on the state's Physical Fitness Test - Fitnessgram.
