Michael Mahar was the big winner in this month's village election, but it had nothing to do with his popularity.

Voters in the north-central Illinois village of Cedar Point have few choices on their ballot this Election Day.

The Illinois State Police and the Illinois Department of Transportation worked together to develop a strategic plan to restrict access to some of the worst stretches of the Interstates to public safety vehicles and snowplows, and to try and detour travelers to areas where services are available.

In April, the faculty, staff and friends of the Leepertown Grade School had been thrilled to learn from Merry Noonan, co-owner of Lou's LaGrotto restaurant and organizer of the Concerts for a Cause, that the district would be the beneficiary of a concert by '70s rockers REO Speedwagon.
