The "Notice of Final Determination" -- the document USPS uses after it studies a post office and receives comments from customers -- was posted on Halloween for Cedar and a week ago for Alexander, according to USPS spokesman Brian Sperry.

The U.S. Postal Service -- drowning in the proverbial sea of red ink -- has announced plans to look at closing nearly 3,700 mostly rural post offices, including an additional 13 in northwest Kansas.

The Alexander Post Office, in Rush County, already was on the list of candidates for closure; no decision on its fate, however, has been made.
