Some central Pennsylvania residents are cleaning up after heavy rain caused flash floods that closed roads, flooded basements and swamped cars, prompting some rescues.

Larry Deklinski/Staff Photo The vehicle at right, which was for sale at Rarig Tire Company, at state routes 487 and 42 near the Catawissa Bridge, landed in fast-moving water when the ground gave out during flash flooding Sunday night.

U.S. Navy Lt. Thomas G. Litwin, a son of Barb A. and Thomas F. Litwin, of Catawissa, is currently deployed in the eastern Pacific Ocean.

Based out of an empty building at the Norristown State Hospital, a little-known group trains twice a week in various search and rescue disciplines, honing their craft and preparing for the inevitable call that will thrust them into action.
