The Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals has upheld the conviction of Sherrie Reid Phillips, former probate judge of Covington County.

One of the key witnesses in last year's case against former Covington County Probate Judge Sherrie Phillips has filed a civil lawsuit against the former judge and others involved in the case that led to Phillips' conviction on charges of criminal theft and ethics charges.

Ask Virginia Hooper if her job is physically demanding, and the Atmore grandmother offers this simple reply: "When we get ready to move furniture around at my house, I just grab my side of it." Chances are that furniture will slide into place with nary a scratch as long as Hooper directs it.

Phillips, shown here leaving the courthouse in October, has not spent any time in jail.
