Dogs are the stars at Carol Stream's 'CSBarks' event
The 6th annual "CSBarks" dog festival, organized by the Carol Stream Park District, took place at the Town Center site throughout the day. Hundreds of canines of every size, shape and disposition roamed the grounds and enjoyed the many doggy activities on tap -- flying-disc catching, racing, obedience demonstrations and more.

Fountain View Recreation Center gets LEED-certified
Carol Stream Park District's efforts to make the Fountain View Recreation Center environmentally friendly and energy-efficient have paid off: the building recently received LEED certification. Park officials say Fountain View is the first public recreation center in Illinois to receive the certification, which stands for Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design and is determined by the U.S. Green Building Council.

Pet owners can spend some quality time with their dogs this weekend at two pooch-friendly events: Carol Stream's CSBarks Dog Festival and Glen Ellyn's Poochapalooza. Dogs will be able to enjoy an agility course and off-leash area while human visitors can watch canine performances and demonstrations, including a herding event with border collies from Heatherhope Farm.

Opposition surfaces to Carol Stream landscape waste facility
A Carol Stream Park District commissioner is spearheading a campaign opposing the location of a landscape waste transfer facility in the village. John Jaszka launched an online petition drive through change.org asking the village to reconsider allowing the facility to move to Kuhn Road.
Carol Stream Library launches reading program
Carol Stream Public Library has launched a family based program aimed at promoting reading readiness among some of the village's youngest residents. In the new "1,000 Books Before Kindergarten" program, parents are encouraged to read 1,000 books to their children before the youngsters start kindergarten.

District 93 seeking mentors to help students
When Vince Ackerman started volunteering in Carol Stream Elementary District 93's mentoring program, the second-grader he worked with had behavior problems and got into trouble with teachers. Ackerman, who is a District 93 school board member, says he mentored the child for the past two years, meeting with him during lunch and talking about what was going on in class.

2 arrested after man attacks woman in downtown Naperville
Two men from Carol Stream are free on bond and awaiting trial, after one of them allegedly harassed a woman sexually and then threw her to the ground in downtown Naperville, after she rebuffed his advances. Frank D. Brandle, 23, is charged with battery causing bodily harm and disorderly conduct, according to Naperville police.

Carol Stream Woman Charged in West Chicago Hit and Run
A 57-year-old Carol Stream woman faces charges following a hit and run in unincorporated West Chicago late last night. Kim H. Phan, of the 700 block of Carol Stream, has been charged with failure to report an accident involving personal injury, which is a class 2 felony, according to the DuPage County Sheriff's Office press release.

Carol Stream officials have begun enforcing the village's requirement for property owners to remove dead, damaged or infested trees from their private property. Courtesy notices were sent to some residences with dead trees, Community Development Director Bob Glees said.
