How could you not notice the dog was in pain before your wife was arrested? The dog has to be in severe pain! People like you should not own pets if you can't take care of them! The pictures online are awful! I can't imagine any of my pets going throught this!

"The veterinarian treating the dog told deputies that Chocolate's collar was several sizes too small and that he would have died if not treated immediately, Tovar said."

Poor dog must have been in terrible pain. This is so sad. Why do people get pets if they cannot take care of them?

If she was stationed at Ft. Bliss and this happened, they would just let her go, just like the two other soldiers that killed their dogs.

The shelter did it's job. When an animal comes to them and is injured as badly as this puppy was of course they needed to call the authorities. The shelter did not press charges that was up to the Sheriffs dept. Thank God for animal rescue workers.

So now when a pet gets an injury, owners are simply going to make it disappear vs. facing such accusations. There has to be a a better way to make it O.K to report injuries to your pet. Face it...it happens...how can we have the pet taken care of without further harm from an owner that is scared of these laws?

So the vet at the El Brigado Animal Clinic saw the dag had a serious problem, charged a consultant fee and didn't do anything else with getting the money up front???
Wow, what a guy.
I know businesses run on people paying for service but if the animal was this erverly injured, why would the vet at least do something more than a consult - money or no money. Maybe he could have even set up monthly payments or something???

I don't care how many ways these people try to spin it that puppy had that collar on for quite a while, the collar twisting and the spikes causing that much damage is their way of doing damage control. Another twist to this story is the fact that this is another case of irresponsible pet owners with a volatile animal like a pit bull. These dogs continuously fall in the hands of irresponsible people. Oh and El Paso doesn't have a 24 hour animal emergency clinic?? I agree about the vet, he let a seriously injured animal leave his office without taking any type of action, a real douchebag. The courts need to make sure these people never own another animal again, not only are they irresponsible but they do not even have the funds to finance the basic needs of a pet much less the health care.

anyway you put it...she knew the dog was hurt and delayed getting the proper treatment in time..so now they must pay for the crime...her punishment should be the same as what the dog had wrong with it...put that spiked collar on the woman like how it was on the dog...an leave it there

True! How does $$$ become more of an issue than a pet being taken care of. Sad but true, the American Way :(

"Minding your women" and abusing dogs? Which trailer park do you live in?
I saw that dog on petfinders. It's disturbing. Very hard to look at. That poor dog.
Regardless of how much could be afforded, if they cared anything about the dog's welfare AT ALL, they could have taken it straight to the humane society and surrendered it for medical treatment. They wouldn't get it back, but at least it would've been treated and feeling better.

Those dogs that attack kids usually either have a brain tumor, rabies, or have been beaten by their owners.
To me, it would be a huge deal if I knew my dog was severely injured and needed treatment immediately. The vet that could turn the dog away should have his *ss kicked.

If you are gonna stereotype this breed of dog and take it as true then I'll ignore your comment cause it's the your inbreeding talking. I've had this breed of dog all my life and my kids have never been hurt...you're just ignorant.
