I was covering an Orange County Chamber of Commerce meeting a few years ago when officials began touting all of the new businesses flocking to the county.

While the protesters who packed the stone stairwell of the state Capitol chanted "Ban Fracking Now," the political types in suits down the hall spoke of a different reality.

The anti-fracking movement in New York state is turning up the star power with a rally and concert hosted by actors Mark Ruffalo and Melissa Leo and featuring Natalie Merchant, John Sebastian, Joan Osborne and a host of other performers.

Laura Solomon from the Town of Thompson was named Sullivan County "Retired Senior Volunteer Program" Senior of the Year for 2011 at the 39th annual RSVP Recognition Day Luncheon on Monday at the Villa Roma Resort & Conference Center in Callicoon.
