San Diego grows nearly 1 percent, hand it to the babies

Babies made up the bulk of San Diego County's nearly 1 percent population growth in 2011 and nearby, in Imperial County, the city of Calipatria was the fastest growing city in the state last year thanks to new prison inmates, according to a new report from the state Department of Finance.
