You can't talk on a cell phone while driving but you can have a dog jumping around on your lap while you drive.
What gives.

Perhaps Arnold vetoed this bill because he likes to drive around town with his old dog, Maria Shriver, sitting on his lap.

Sounds to me like he is trying to not waste time on less-than-important issues.

Personally, I think it's dumb and distracting to drive with any creature on your lap. All they have to do is need to slam on the breaks and be wrought with guilt when they hurt little fluffy.

I'm currently living in the Bay Area of California, and regardless of location, this law should go into effect. I feel the same way about ANY TYPE OF DISTRACTING ACTIVITY OR DEVICE that is in front of a driver of an automobile. Since when is the safety of California's roads (or New York's, North Dakota's, etc.) not a TOP PRIORITY for the top executive of any state?!

Amazing. In Cali-forn-ia, you can't drive with an after market GPS in your window, but you can drive with dogs in your lap. That's my kind of state!

Neal In Hamden: that's what you get when we allow fulltime lawmakers - what would we expect, except for them to sit around coming up with silly laws. At least here in Suffolk County (LI) our top notch pollyticians did the logical thing - get the Suffolk County PD off the LIE - now we can all eat our Mickey-D's while talking on the cell and keeping the dogs outta our fries, all while traveling 95 mph. Why wait, come to LI!

If some of you people would take maybe 10 minutes to think, you could probably come up with what, 150 different "dumb things to do while driving". Shall our politicians take their time to draft, debate and vote on a law for everyone of them? As is the case with the existing laws of this type,(cell phone, etc), they wouldn't be enforced anyway. Don't we have more important things with which to keep our politicians busy?

I guess it would be too much to ask for people to use common sense while driving.

What's also amazing is that when these "rich snobs" and celebrities get pulled over for a DWI, they're out of jail within a few hours. Let it be average Joe and they get the book thrown at them. Glad I'll never live in California.

Glad to see the glorious state of California is tackling the tough issues. I was losing sleep over this one.

Now if we can only get a few more celebutantes to take a little more time out from their drunk driving and cocaine binges to offer Obama more political advice.

So how about lap-dances while you're driving? Is that still legal?

I didn't read the article. I mean people in general not celebrities.
I might get sued by a rich person. It seems people are getting
careless on the roads now. That came back to me the poor person
if they had an accident.
