Shortly before 8 a.m. this morning, a Virginia Department of Corrections van transporting Nottoway County Center inmates was involved in an accident at Lewiston Plank Road and Schutt Road in Nottoway County, according to Virginia State Police.

The five correctional officers charged in October with animal cruelty for fondling a K-9 dog and videotaping the incidents will not be prosecuted.

A fourth man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Berryville Councilwoman Gail Smith.

Authorities continue to question people in the slaying of Councilwoman Gail Smith, but still have named no suspects.

Nottoway County, VA _ A former employee of the Piedmont Geriatric Hospital in Burkeville, Virginia was arrested Tuesday by trooper and special agents with the Virginia State Police Bureau of criminal Investigation.
