U.S. Sen. Mark Udall is asking for the public's help in crafting legislation to create a national monument that would include 22,000 acres on both sides of the Arkansas River between Salida and Buena Vista in south-central Colorado.

Antoinette Garcia, Andi Laitlaw, Reena John, Taylor Bohlender, Liam McDonnell, Yana Shandaliy, Tessa Gunnin and Melina Muller, all juniors at Summit High School, are heading the Teen Seat Belt Challenge, a six-week campaign to raise awareness of seat belt usage.

The event is free and open to the public. Shavano Poets Society members will read selections from their anthology, Parade of Poets .

Kindergarten registration is underway in the Walnut Creek School District. Regular kindergarten registration for parents of children born on or before Oct.
