Buda throws weight behind Dahlstrom Ranch deal
A vast swath of pristine Hill Country ranchland near Buda could be preserved in perpetuity under a deal shaping up between Hays County and other agencies.
County officials are considering the purchase a conservation easement on the Dahlstrom Ranch, a 2,275-acre tract south of the intersection of FM 1626 and RM 967 just outside Buda.
The Dahlstrom family, headed by matriarch Gay Dahlstrom, has owned the ranch on Onion Creek since the 1930s. Late last year, they approached the county with an offer to sell the development rights to the land for $9.9 million. The property is appraised at about $60 million.
