Blackberry Pie Anyone?
Many of the home grown fruits and wild berries collected in our little town of Briceville are canned and put into cellars with care.
And although very few blackberries make it to the cellar stage, we can't blame it on lack of fruit; because Briceville mountain and the surrounding ridges are abundant in these long, thorny bushes.
There's nothing like the aroma of a well-made blackberry pie and even a not-so-well made blackberry pie. Blackberries are easy to cook with and even more delicious to eat. The seemingly endless list of recipies consist of varieties of cobblers, pies, jams and jellies, cakes, tarts, and so many more.
The hand-picking method seems more economic knowing that blackberries can cost up to $7.00 per quart and $28.00 per gallon.
These 'black beauties' contain a biological substance called, Flavonoids. Flavanoids are known for their antioxidant activitiy and research suggests that these enzymes also help eliminate mutagens and carcinogens aiding in the battle against cancer.
So get away to the mountain this weekend and pick some blackberries. Your body will thank you!
HAPPY Independance Day BRICEVILLE!

"Also, everyone is invited to our Open House: Saturday, June 7th from Noon to 4:00 pm." Daphne Windham said.
Information about the library will be available in abundance. Including activities for children and adults alike, the Briceville Public Library's Summer Reading Program signups, information about the status of our new library building.
