Friends remember Islip Terrace student fatally shot

In the moments before she was fatally shot in the face, Danielle Calabrese stood with a group of friends on a Brentwood sidewalk in the warm autumn air Friday night, making plans to go out, police and friends ...

This is such a shame. This is why we need to arm ourselves as citizens. My condolences go out to the family and loved ones of this young woman.

"We're basically deciding to sell the house," Fanduiz said. "Something's going on. The cops have lost control."
Mr. Fanduiz; I'm appalled by your statement. So many neighborhoods on Long Island have gone downhill because of attitudes like yours. Why blame the police? Put the blame on the parents of children who are out of control. Or better yet the criminals who did this to Miss Calabrese!. I think THEY were the ones who lost control! What do you expect, Mr. Fanduiz, a policeman in every home? Yes, sell your house and go to a 'nicer' neighborhood. Let somebody else take issue with the crimes that plague their communities.

Gee! I guess the Police will investigate this tragic event, oh MY!
Remeber the Police only report Crime they do not stop crime. Maybe if the people would demand ALL of their CIVIL RIGHTS and take them, things would be different. This is waht the 2nd Amendamnet is for. To protect and defend ourselves from Harm. Maybe if we got rid of all the illegals thia might have not happened.
Just wait till OB is our leader!

What kind of comment do you expect from a Mr. Fanduiz? Blame the police, who the community dislikes is an easy answer. Mr Fanduiz needs to look at who the shooters are, they look like him. I think he wants to leave the hood because of what his son is involved in, there was a message sent with the shooting. I'm sure his son who happened not to be present at the time of the incident is cooperating fully with police. NIGHTHAWK, the town of Brentwood has been in decline for a while now and is accelerating at a rapid pace, soon to be on par with Wyandanch. Note the frequency of violence that is reported in the paper and X that by God know what number because you only hear of the most newsworthy stories, if Snoozday reports it. The issue of crime in Brentwood WILL NEVER be resolved. It is now an inbred with the culture that populates it. The only thing you will see is a few lit candles at the crime scene and some community organizer holding a march of maybe 20 people down Fifth Ave. then were onto the next shooting, and continuing the 'circle of minority life'.

Zoraida, I apologize for referring to you as Mister. It was very commendable of you to go to this young lady as she lay dying and try to comfort her. However, I do stand by what I said about your statement. "the police have lost control". I myself, live in a crime-ridden community. So many good neighbors left when the 'trash' moved in. Parents who didn't care where their kids were, leaving them alone while they scored their drugs, parading them around as little gang members. If I move out who wins?My home is important to me, whats left of my community is important to me. I hope you understand my anger over the senseless death of Miss Calabrese.

Tragic, but one has to ask....so I will. What was a nice white girl from the Terrace doing hanging out in Brentwood, on a street corner? And WHO was she hanging out with? I doubt she was the target of the drive-by, just an innocent bystander. Something tells me that some of her 'friends' were either black gang members or hispanic gang members. I blame her parents for allowing her to pal around with such people.

Her choice in friends and boyfriends were suspect BUT she was 20 years old not 16. He parents could hold some guilt in not preparing her about the people she associates with. I remember the saying, you are judged by the people you hang around with, so true. Her life was ended thanks to the decision she made as a 20 yo and was someone who may not have been making good decisions for a while. Anyone who hangs out on a corner in a town like Brentwood at night is 1)looking for trouble 2)drugs 3)both.

Maybe now that an innocent bystander was murdered, the authorities will crack down on these bastards. My ma is a virtual prisoner in her own home in B'wood because she's a Boricua(from P.R.). Despite the fact that we're hispanic, these terrorists hate us too! If you're not one of them, you're dead! She owns her own home and pays taxes for these criminals kids to go to school & ruin our quality of life, while their asses are out commiting crimes. We're fed up. Levy, get rid of these menace to society. Call in the National Guard, ICE, DEA, and any other Gov. agency necessary to eradicate these pariah that plague us. FYI: Puerto Ricans are natural born U.S.citizens. Stop profiling us. We the decent law abiding Puerto Ricans do not wish to be associated with these gang bangers(esp. Central Americans).. Please stop it NOW, before you or one of yours become victims. RIP Danielle Calabrese

Danielle was a beautiful, young, happy young woman who unfortunately was in the wrong place at the wrong time. My daughter was very good friends with her in highschool and i drove Danielle home from band practice many times. Her passing has turned these kid's lives upside down.....they are all devastated beyond belief. Instead of trying to put the blame on the town she was in....or her parents or why she was there....or god knows what....let's all get down to the basics and offer our condolences to the family that was just torn apart. Her parents and her brother are left to pick up the pieces. And only time will tell if they will ever be able to even do that. My heart goes out to them......and all of her friends that are stricken beyond imagination. Blaming, in this case, gets us nowhere. She is gone....in an instant....with no explanation. Let's all give Danielle a piece of our heart and hope that she is in a better place.

First of all she wasn't hanging out on the street corner she was sitting in front of her boyfriend's house. You know there are some decent people that live in bad neighborhoods because that's what they can afford. THAT DOESNT MAKE THEM BAD PEOPLE. The bad people are the ones who are out shooting innocent people and not the ones going out in front of a friend's house to get ready to leave and go out for the night. All you people from different states are so judgemental. Islip Terrace is not a gang/drug town. You would never see this happen in that town. Brentwood is a bad town unfortunately but that doesn't mean that everyone who lives there are bad people. Danielle was an innocent bystander to an obvious stupid ass who thinks he's cool because he's in a gang. Fuck all you gang members. Shooting guns doesnt mean your tough. It means your a coward.

I agree with the previous posts that this is a senseless act. Yes, Fuck all you gang members! Fucking cowards shooting people for reasons no one but they understand. This is leaking into all the surrounding communities of Brentwood. Islip Terrace students were sent home a letter last year saying that there were no gangs in the school. We all need to wake up! I agree- send in the national guard and put in a curfew. Our communities are going to hell because we don't want to believe that these people are really this violent. This is why we vacation in Disney Land not Central America. We need to now throw out everyone that does not belong here. Allow the immigrants who have worked hard and contribute the our community to become citizens (just as my relatives did) and remove the scum that runs drugs for the rest. These gangs are only getting more powerful as our upper class children buy party drugs from them. We are supplying the money and the means for this...Wake up East Islip and surrounding areas! This beautiful girl should have been friends with anyone she wanted. Bless the people who ran to her aid and comforted her in her last moments. This was a horrible thing to happen and now this poor family has to live with it for the rest of their lives. Her poor parents and brother! If you are reading this please take a moment to ask God to give them strength. I hope that someone will have the courage to speak to the police and get the people who did this off of our streets. We all need to press the political powers to help us clean our area up. It's not just Brentwood, it's the other "pretty" neighborhoods too!

Arm yourself?
What for, to run down the street chasing this car shooting at it so another innocent gets killed?

Or are you going to go to a 20-hr training course to get good aim like the cops, who shoot 42 bullets at a kid in a foyer, and have only 19 actually hit him.

You are right about one thing though, it is a heart-aching shame. May her family's pain be softened somehow by knowing all sensible people grieve for this young persons loss of life.

She was my best friend in the world! And I wasnt there for her when she needed me and I feel guilty for not being there for her but you dont know her and the people she was with.. She wasnt at a street corner buying drugs or starting trouble... She was against that! She walked around with a smile on her face and made everyone happy with just her mere presence... So before you judge her know you ****ing facts. Ask all of you to pray for her and her family!

So true....my condolences to her family and friends. It will be a tough road for them, and I pray they find the piece of s**t who decided to play god and he gets what he deserves. What a shame.
