It's two-out-of-two for ShineBox Media Productions of Salt Lake City, Utah. The filmmakers behind the documentary "Killer at Large" are now proud to boast an "Award-Winning Documentary" after their exciting June achievements. "Killer at Large" took the Silver Medal Best Documentary Award at the prestigious International Filmmaker Festival in the UK and then later last week earned the Best Political Documentary prize at the Philadelphia Independent Film Festival.
"It was great to get the film out to festival-going audiences on opposite sides of the world,” said Director Steven Greenstreet. “It’s even more satisfying to see that the film resonated enough with these filmgoers to receive these awards.
Audiences are saying "Killer at Large" is a riveting documentary that outlines the complexities of the American obesity epidemic featuring appearances by former President Bill Clinton, consumer advocate Ralph Nader, filmmaker Neil LaBute, bestselling author Michael Pollan, and former Utah governor Mike Leavitt. Former Surgeon General Richard Carmona explains in the film why obesity is more threatening, costly, and deadly to society than "9/11 or any other terrorist attack you can point out to me."
"Some people think the subject of obesity is going to yield a really dry news piece, but they have no idea how engaging and vast the subject really is," added Producer Bryan Young. "At the question and answer sessions we held at these festivals, people were so fascinated by the film and its content, we would literally spend hours after screenings talking about the film and discussing the issues it raises with concerned audiences."
Utah audiences will have a chance to see the film on Wednesday, July 9th at the Tower Theatre in Salt Lake City at 6:30 pm. Tickets are $5 at the door and all proceeds go to the Wasatch Community Gardens' education programs. Panel discussion to follow the film, with filmmakers Steven Greenstreet, Bryan Young, Elias Pate, and Executive Producer Dr. Shawn Talbott. A number of subjects and experts from the film will also be on hand for the discussion.
