A low pressure system moving east toward the Mississippi Valley on Thursday was expected to generate rain from eastern Texas through the Southeast. The system was headed for the eastern seaboard.
Snow was forecast for the Central Plains and Upper Mississippi Valley.
Meanwhile, a Pacific storm system was expected to slam into the Northwest coast. Rain and high elevation snow were likely in western Washington and Oregon. The system was also expected to move into northern California.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Wednesday ranged from a low of minus 32 degrees at Bottineau, N.D., to a high of 83 degrees at Melbourne, Fla. Read more
