The reason that Bonham High School football continues to lose has very little to do with coaching. This community has passed on to the youth of this town the "culture of losing". If you can find the article you would think that it was written about Bonham residents and parents. This same mindset can be seen in communities all over Texas that consistently have losing programs. Talent always enters into the final outcome, but desire and mental toughness can win a lot of games. I promise you that losing bothers the coaches ...all of them. The kids and their parents may tell you that they hate to lose, but why don't they do something about it? Not all the kids have this attitude there are a handful that play hard every snap. I suspect that Bonham is in for a lot more losing seasons unless something changes..and I don't mean coaches. 5 wins in 4 years, 3 wins the last 3 years, 0-10 2 of the last 3 years. This program is at rock bottom! Bonham has one of the worst records in the state. Don't listen to all that cr@p about how many kids are in the program. We were embarrassed by teams that had 17 and 18 kids in uniform. I would rather have 11 that wanted to win than 45 that were just happy to be there.

Well, I agree completely, but you can't make the kids go out and play. Seems like a lot of them in this town just aren't interested in sports anymore. I wished they could have seen it in the late 80's and early 90's and how it was. On Fridays the whole town was in purple and white and the stands packed even at out of town games.

Well, "Anonymous", you can only be referring to the "hay days" of Loy Dean and his football program. Maybe after he gets his butt kicked tonight, he'd agree to come back and straighten our program out..... The problem isn't that "kids just aren't interested in sports anymore", the problem is that they don't want to work hard enough to win. They have the same mentality as their parents - "I shouldn't have to work for it...just give it to me".... Purple Freddy just described the situation eloquently and accurately.

kids today don't know what work is. They think they are good at football cause they can win at madden on the pro level. I have to deal with kids in the community and the ones that play football today are beat before they even get to the field. They don't believe they can win. They just talk about how good the other team is or how bad they are. They have no confidence and half I don't think really care. I played during L.D.C.'s time and we believed we were gonna win. Losing wasn't part of it. Kids today spend more time inside than we ever dreamed of, everything is handed to them and they don't have to want. Its all in front of them with the touch of a button. They have cell phones with camera's, we had CB radios and a handle. I hope it changes soon for Bonham football but it don't look good for the next few seasons anyway but who knows. Maybe they can find the right buttons to push on these kids.

PurpleFan, at least Loy Dean is with a school that is in the playoffs. I doubt he is really going to lose any sleep if he "gets his butt kicked tonight". He's not even the HC over there anyway. I went to the Argyle/Prosper game, and it is unreal how much better those teams are than our Warriors right now.

I would too. Anything would be better than what our program is right now.

I think we should give Trompler another year or two, but good lord, it was painful to watch some of the games this year.

Oh, and N Lamar did get their "butts kicked", along with both other playoff reps from our district. Our district is one of the weakest in the state and we finished dead last. Great.

I hope Trompler is the right guy, I don't know but if we don't give a coach more than 2 years we will never get better. What LDC had was kids coming up throught the system from the time they started and they knew what they wanted and how to execute when they did get to the varsity level which gives you confidence in what you are doing.

First thing they need to do is make sure Ronnie Hill isn't sniffing around in any way.

It's going to take time. They need to get this offense that Trompler has set up at the junior high level so the kids are used to it.

Also, they need to get some of the kids that are not participating in athletics for whatever reason, back involved.

You can't expect a coach to turn a program around that is as bad as ours is in just 2 years!! Ask the current coaches what the problem is and they'll tell you it isn't the offense or the current coach or even Ronnie Hill: it's the comfort with losing that these kids have learned.

Ask G.A. Moore if he can turn a program around in 2 years! It can be done, just takes a lot of hard work.

Well, apparently you believe YOU are the authority on coaching since you say no one can turn a program around in 2 years! LOL, I just gave you an example of a coach that did it in 1 year!

I bet you never even put the pads on for the Warriors though. But wait for it guys, he's going to tell us he was one of the big time players from the late 60's state semi-final team!

What does that have to do with athletics, especially football? I hardly see how a new wing on Finley Oates and new IW Evans would make a kid go out and play football! Wow, nice logic.

well, when I played the track had holes in it, I think they used diesel fuel or weed killer to burn the lines in the field(no painting the field back then), the score board was the same one that was there since I was a kid going to the games, must have had that score board for 30 years. That was 2 or 3 score boards ago now. You walked in everyone elses urine to go to the bathroom and you got splinters when you sat in the stands. Oh, and both teams used the same field house. We didn't apparently have any money back then. I look at what they have know and I can't believe all the improvements to the football program since I played. The bond election would have nothing to do with the program. We didn't have anything but we went to the playoffs every year. Why? If you ask me and I played, cause I believed we had good coaches and we believed we would win every week and the coaches had everything to do with that. Don't go blaming this topic thread as something connected to the bond issue. I started this thread to see how others felt about the state of the program. The bond issue isn't relivent to this at all. The kids don't play because the kids don't believe.

Sorry, Anon, I'm not old enough to have played in the 60's! But I did play and we won and you know why we won? We won because the coaches, the fans and my dad wouldn't except anything BUT winning!! Losing wasnt something we even thought about. But when it did happen, we HATED it and it ate at us all week and we took it out on who we played the next Friday night. The kids in Bonham just don't do that anymore....
