On the opening day of big-game hunting season, a group of unidentified "hunters" bagged a 500-pound black bear in the village of Walton.

'Old-fashioned police work' leads to arrest of two on arson charges in Delaware County
A pair of East Meredith residents are facing arson charges in connection with a blaze that leveled the Sidney Center United Methodist Church and they're linked to five more fires, according to the Delaware County Sheriff's Office.
Wednesday afternoon, Delaware County Sheriffa s Deputies arrested and charged two East Meredith males with Arson in the Third Degree in connection with the October 1st early morning arson fire at the Sidney Center United Methodist Church.
The public is being asked for help in the investigations of fires in the Bloomville and Delhi areas that occurred Friday morning, as well as the vandalism of equipment in the Bloomville and South Kortright gravel banks reported Friday morning, Delaware County deputies said.
