Man seriously injured when car goes under tractor-trailer
A 31-year-old man was seriously injured Tuesday night when his car struck a tractor-trailer that was backing into a driveway near Blades, state police said this morning. The accident was reported at 10:14 p.m. on Bethel Concord Road about a mile east of U.S. 13. Marc D. Morgan of Laurel was driving a 2003 Ford Taurus eastbound and failed to see the flatbed trailer that was perpendicular to the road, Master Cpl. Gary Fournier said. The Taurus went under the trailer, pinning Morgan in the car. He was freed by emergency workers and taken by ambulance to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford, then flown to Christiana Hospital in Stanton. The driver of the 1996 Freightline tractor-trailer, Howard J. West, 59, of Seaford, was not injured. Fournier said both drivers were wearing seat belts. The road was closed about four hours as police investigated and the wreckage was cleared.
