Three events surround the ordination and installation of the Most Rev. Michael C. Barber SJ, as the fifth Bishop of Oakland.

The Rev. Michael C. Barber, SJ, who will become Oakland's fifth bishop on May 25, has served as far away as Micronesia, Toronto and England, and as close to home as Menlo Park, where he helped train men who are serving as priests in the diocese.

Bishop Robert Vasa this week announced a series of pastoral changes for the diocese, which are effective July 1 except where otherwise noted.

Bishop Paiute Tribe Vice-chair Bill Vega presents Mark Napoles and his wife Andri with the key to their new 5-bedroom, 1,800 square-foot Pa Ha Lane home on May 1. The Napoles family of six are the first to receive one of the 19 model homes to be built through the Tribe's Community Development Department B22 Housing Project, Vega said.

The Bishop Area Chamber of Commerce will once again host "A Taste of the Sierra" this Friday evening, May 3, in conjunction with the ever-popular Home Show at the Tri-County Fairgrounds in Bishop.

Eva, the stuffed mascot of Bay of Plenty internet company Enternet Online, was sent to the edge of the final frontier, complete with sunglasses to protect her button eyes.

Initial supplies of firewood can be found at Antelope, Smoke, Dry Creek, Hartley, Oh Ridge and Reversed Peak Forest Management Areas located on the fuelwood map, according to an Inyo National Forest press release.
