Hannah-Roberts of Red Bluff was among 1,371 students named to Biola University's Fall 2011 Dean's List for academic excellence.

An unconscious man has been pulled out of the San Joaquin River near Biola. Fresno's search and rescue team received a call of a drowning at Skaggs Bridge off of Barstow and Highway 145 late Monday morning.

"The schools we are recognizing today demonstrate the incredible commitment of California's teachers, administrators, and school employees to provide a world-class education to every student, in spite of the financial hardships facing our state and our schools," State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson said in a statement.

Students from Biola University and Whittier College are among hundreds of other students from the state's private colleges, representing more than 26,000 Cal Grant recipients, in the "Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities Student Day in the Capitol" rally Wednesday.
