Varro has been a strong, active, positive person in the mayor's office. She is skilled at bringing different people together to work for important goals.

Joe I couldn't disagree with you more. Varro was an opportunist. She gave no real value to the school board. She was a shill for the unions and the DFL Party.

We need real leaders on the school board. With the 9.4% tax levy they announced, they (school board) have shown that they are not fiscally responsible.

Oh Joe, I didn't post my name because of the retaliation I would face if I did. That is the culture that Carstarphen and Silva have brought to SPPS. I am not sure what bubble you live in, but please step into the real world of education in St. Paul.

Shill for the unions and DFL? I would think that fits the Teacher's Union just fine. She couldn't stay at SPPS for these reasons:

"And according to MinnCAN's prospectus from July, the group's policy priorities included establishing alternative routes to teaching and principal positions, changing teacher tenure laws so layoffs are based on teacher quality and not seniority, creating assessments for all grades in all subject areas and evaluating teachers based on student performance."

Could you, as a teacher, imagine layoffs based on quality versus seniority? Scary thoughts...crazy talk! ha.

She runs for office and only serves half of the term she was elected for. She's St. Paul's Sarah Palin.

Reality - current so-called efforts to bring "accountability" to schools has brought devastating effects the education system. Students are constantly tested like guinea pigs and educators are spending the majority of their time in meetings analyzing the test data. Encouraging educators to make decisions based on data is not a bad thing; however asking educators to spend the majority of their time in meetings rather than planning rich lessons and providing meaningful feedback to students is harmful. Lay off and let educators do what they know best.

She may be 'in it for herself'- but who isn't to some degree when it comes to work? some may have an altruistic bent when working, but for those of us who HAVE to work, it is as much about paying the rent. As for being a liberal pawn, I doubt MinnCan will ever be mistaken for anything close to liberal by the Teacher's Unions.
Thanks Varro

She said the new job will allow her to expand on the work she's done in St. Paul "to impact yet more kids."

NO: Her new job will allow her to expand on her Salary to a tune of $195,000 and to IMPACT the Tax Payers, Not anything positive for the magic word "Kids"

Mayor Coleman is driving St Paul property owners in to a Depression of debt that the next 3 generations will be suffering from!

But thats ok, a re-run of Dancing with the Stars is on to night!!

Perhaps she doesn't have a choice but to take another job to cover an over-extended mortgage and private schooling.

Daily Horoscope for May 28

Taurus

Time can be a great healer, not in a dramatic way but by gently soothing. It is an influence that disappears very quickly in the hurry and scurry of modern living. If you can connect to it then you will find not just that you feel physically better, but that you also have a deeper sense of meaning and purpose. You could be pulled into a tricky situation and end up feeling frustrated or blocked.
