Students serve up fundraiser | The Advertiser-Tribune
Sunshine, good food and good friends - what a great way to spend your Sunday afternoon! That's just how many of us in Bettsville spent last Sunday.
Under the guidance of teachers Stacey Grant and Shelley Phillimore, Bettsville School’s Relay for Life team opened the Flamingo Cafe and worked as car hops, serving cheeseburgers, hot dogs and root beer floats. The students did a terrific job, taking orders and serving food with a smile. Bettsville American Legion’s Harley Riders grilled the burgers and hot dogs, and for that we are very appreciative.
Proceeds from the cafe will help cover medical costs for A.J. Weyant, 21 month-old son of Bettsville alumni Hope (Stickney) and Brent Weyant, who has leukemia.
After the cafe closed, we enjoyed a tribute to Elvis Presley performed by Walt Sanders (onenightwithyou.net) who very graciously donated his time to the cause. Sanders’ performance was great, and all of us who attended thoroughly enjoyed it. The afternoon ended with an auction of a variety of goodies.
Many thanks go to those who contributed to this event, including Penny Snook, Jolly’s, Carmie’s, Beth Baker, Cinemark, Wagner’s Flowers, Pet Supplies Plus, Krista Harrison, Lee’s Chicken, Tiffin Police Department, Seneca County sheriff, Ann Craun, Angie Garn, Rock Run Bulk Foods, Ballreich’s, Bettsville Alumni Team, Bettsville teachers and staff, and Ted Keller and the Lutheran Church.
If I have inadvertently omitted anyone, I apologize. We would also like to extend a huge thanks to all of you who supported the event by coming to eat with us and/or donating to the cause.
I am extremely proud proud of all of our students and their efforts to make this event successful. They worked very hard on something they all believe in, and they were quite successful. While doing what they did, they contributed to two very important causes – the health of a little boy and Relay for Life. They also learned a valuable lesson — young people who are willing to work hard and commit to a cause can do anything they attempt.
Again, I am very proud of Bettsville’s students. They continue to amaze me with everything they do. I can’t wait to see their next amazing feat – I know there is much more to come from our students!
