The former chief of the Bettie Volunteer Fire Department was indicted Wednesday by the Upshur County Grand Jury on a charge of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child, a first-degree felony.

The Northeast Texas Fire Complex of 52,951 acres in six counties; Cass, Cherokee, Gregg, Marion, Rusk and Upshur, is considered 100 percent contained as of Monday afternoon, but the fire danger remains.

The Upshur County Sheriff's Office is investigating a burglary at Daddy T's convenience store and restaurant in Bettie.
