At the height of World War II, Katy Campbell Hall of Bertram worked at the North American Aviation plant in Grand Prairie installing the tail wheels on the famed P-51 Mustang fighters.

And this year the cherished organization, which has thousands of members in the Highland Lakes and across Central Texas, enjoys its 100th birthday.

Permit applications by the City of Burnet, City of Bertram and Camp Longhorn, who use some of the largest amounts of groundwater in Burnet County, will be considered at a series of Central Texas Groundwater Conservation District hearings Friday.

Donkeys facing miserable conditions that threaten their survival have found friends in a Bertram couple dedicated to rescuing the animals.

"For the near-term fire concerns, rains like these keep the ground moist,' Yura said.
