Standish residents want prison to stay open for jobs
That's the sentiment in Standish, a rural town about 2 hours north of Detroit. It stands to lose 300 good-paying jobs if the state goes ahead with plans to close the maximum security prison on the outskirts of town.
Recently sentenced by Calhoun County Circuit Judge Stephen Miller: Charmica Evonette Griffin, 38, of 195 Hubbard St., Battle Creek, pleaded no contest to resisting and obstructing a police officer: 12 months probation; $598 in fines, costs and fees.
