Kentucky town turns abandoned mine into ride

Has anyone been through the mine. I am taking my family this weedend.

where is the mine at?Would like to take my kids and husband if it is safe.

It is in lynch. It is supposed to be really safe.

oh man...that sounds real safe lol. nah it will probably be pretty cool. lots of history in those old mines.

They have spent alot of money re-doing this mine. And it is very safe now. I plan on taking my wife soon. It shows how much mining has evolved in the last 100 yrs. Has mule teams all the way up to continuous miners which are used today.. I think everyone should check it out... U are supposed to call ahead of time to make appointments.. U can call the kentucky coal mining museum in benham ky.

Are any of these mines in Lynch still owned by US Steel ?

And...

Are any of them still producing?

Im not sure if US steel owns them but none of them produce coal now..

The Portal 31 Mine Tour in Lynch Ky is guarenteed safe because my boyfriend and I have been through it once and we are going to tour it again thursday. It is a must see for anyone who enjoys the history of coal mines and kids will definitely love it but just to let you know..don't be alarmed because the animatronics look freakishly real because they are fixed to talk and one of them is even fixed to move his lips when he talks..it is definitely amazingly awesome..everyone who tours it will love it.

that particular mine doesn't run coal anymore,but there are a lot of mines in that area still running coal. I've called on them for sells calls.

How do u get there

its not worth going to....you go in a mine about as far as you can throw a rock...its really overated.

well to tell the truth.... i pissed on myself. it scared me!!!! But I guess it's worth it after all.

You probably have not even been through it.. lol U just want to say something negative about something nice in this town like everyone else... Maybe some people likes to learn about our mining heritage and history..

no i've never been but i seen a special about it on tv and from the looks of it the town and the exhibit sux lol

Exactly what I was talking about ur the dumbass!! And for ur info the exhibit is over 500 ft. underground... can u throw a rock that far?? I dont think u have no right to even comment on this subject since u know nothing about it! everyone here thinks it is nice and so does all the people " WHO HAVE SEEN IT" ! so get a life

better enjoy it cause mining will be leaving ky forever! so yeah better get your glimpses

obama gonna take it all away!!! then there will be all kinds of mines to make into museums!!!!
