I took the tour of Portal 31 a couple of days ago which was something really hard for me to do since I take panic attacks and am scared to death of closed in places. My Dad worked at Portal 31 until they closed it in 1963. After seeing the type of work my Dad did it wasn't hard to figure out why he died with black lung. That tour is a real eye opener for anybody who had never been in the mines and has no ideal of the danger the Miners face everyday of their life while doing their jobs. This tour also tells the history of Coal along with the History of Lynch, Ky. and the people who come to this area from all over the world to work in Portal 31. To me a Coal Miner could never be paid enough for the jobs they do.I have the highest respect for all Coal Miners. The next time you reach for that light switch THANK A COAL MINER, because He keeps your lights burning.
THANK GOD FOR COAL MINERS ALL OVER THE WORLD.
