The news hit many in Bellville like a ton of bricks. The U.S. Postal Service announced they plan to close the town's contracted post office at the end of the year.

One of Georgia's many unique small towns, Claxton is known throughout the United States and many foreign countries for its fruitcake baking industry.

Like many small communities that once flourished as major business centers, Bellville may have lost its retail dominance of the early 1900s but it has retained and expanded its visual appeal as a residential community.
