The correct term for this is "cytauxzoonosis" which is carried by ticks and the ticks infect the domestic cat through bites. Along with supportive care with fluid therapy and anticoagulants, treatments may include Immidocarb dipropionate, Zeniquin or Azithromycin, Atovaquone, Cyproheptadine as an appetite stimulant, strong antibiotics to combat secondary infections. Treatments may be more promising when vets confer with each other on these cases. The vet in the article should consider getting consults with the specialists at veterinary universities. Clients should be given options to consult with specialists immediately if their cats are suspected with this disease (the vet should be referring them).
