George Lewis has declared his candidacy for one of two seats as Brooke County magistrate that will appear on ballots in the May 8 primary election.

The Brooke County Animal Shelter is looking for answers after getting two calls in weeks about beagle puppies that were found either dead or near death alongside two roads in the county.

A grant awarded for the second phase of the Eldersville Road sewer project, ice and trash on the Brooke County Pioneer Trail and efforts to clean up trash on private property were among issues discussed by the Brooke County Commission on Tuesday.

The Brooke County Commission discussed what may be done to keep Follansbee Steel open and efforts to establish an emergency water line connection between Wellsburg, Beech Bottom and the Hammond Public Service District.

Arrested: James J. Howard, 23, Apartment 1, 2522 Sunset Blvd., failure to appear warrant out of municipal court and criminal mischief and obstructing official business after running from a vehicle during a traffic stop around 4:50 p.m. Monday near Jefferson Street.
