Indiana lawmaker, sons to appear on 'Family Feud'
<![CDATA[BEDFORD, Ind. (AP) -- Indiana Sen. Brent Steele says he had "a ball" competing on the "Family Feud" game show but acknowledges he had a case of nerves. The Bedford Republican and his four sons traveled to Atlanta in August to tape an episode that will air Nov. 25. Steele told The Herald-Times (http://bit.ly/1j9FDXT ) that the family auditioned for the show in Indianapolis after a daughter-in-law got word of tryouts at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Hundreds of families turned out, and the Steeles performed in a mock version of the show. "Before we did the show one of the producers told us to be energetic and enthusiastic," Aaron Steele said. "Being lame doesn't sell on TV." The Steeles can't say how they did because of a nondisclosure agreement. But Aaron Steele, a Bloomington real estate agent, said host Steve Harvey commented on the family members' facial hair, including sibling Gavin's footlong beard. "When he asked Gavin what he did for a living and Gavin told him he was finishing barber school, Steve Harvey nearly died laughing," Aaron said. Brent Steele said Harvey didn't make any jokes about Steele being a politician. "He didn't tease me about that," Steele said. "He congratulated me on it and said he appreciated people who give their time to public service." He said competing was much more nerve-racking than watching the show at home. "It's easy to sit in your recliner at home and answer questions, but it's a lot more challenging in front of TV lights and in front of judges sitting in the front row ready to buzz you if you don't answer in time," he said. The Steeles will gather to watch the broadcast and see how they came across. "When they were filming the show I kind of blanked out, so I'm curious to see if we gave completely ridiculous answers," Aaron said.
