The first trial in the gruesome murder of Tabitha Hartfield, of Lumberton, opened Monday in Lamar County Circuit Court.

About 20 emergency personnel are still on the scene at Okatoma Creek in Covington County as the search continues for a Baxterville man who fell into the creek on Sunday.

Late last night friends say a 49-year-old man from Baxterville slipped off a bank and fell into the Okatoma River at the Seminary Canoe Rental site.

Apart of a more widespread tornado outbreak across the Ohio and Tennessee Valley on Friday, the National Weather Service has confirmed at least one tornado tore across parts of Mississippi.

Damage from possible tornadoes were reported in at least three counties with other severe weather reports of large hail and damaging winds in others.
